huonepakopepi The very word, escape room, can create an unsettling image of being locked in a cramped place and unable to escape.

Fortunately, the reality is quite different. Escape room game is an interesting experience where you forget about the passage of time and let yourself immerse to the game flow. Inside the room, you solve various tasks to reach the end result of the game: escape from the room.

There are clues all over the room and a solved task always gives a clue to the next one. Sometimes completing a task requires cooperation from all the team members.

The game operator monitors the game via camera and helps if necessary if the players don’t seem to be progressing and figuring out what to do next. Players can also contact the game operator themselves and ask for a hint whenever they want.

Considering the level of difficulty and the content of the themes, our escape rooms are generally suitable for players over 12 years old. Children under 12 can play with an adult.

The actual duration of the game is about 60 minutes, but the overall experience includes more. Before the game, we go through the instructions and the rules of the game, and it is a good idea to arrive at the game location about 10-15 minutes before the game starts. Finally, we review the experience together – often we also take a group photo as a memento. Therefore, we recommend reserving about 1.5 hours for the game so that you can enjoy the experience in peace and without rushing.

The purpose of the difficulty levels is to adapt the escape game to best match your own experience level.
You do not need to select the difficulty level before the game and you can change it even after you have selected it.

During the game, there is a situation where you can choose either the hard or normal path.
Behind the hard path is an additional task that must be solved in order to progress in the game.
The normal path skips this task and takes you directly to the clue that takes you further in the game.

Pakotarinat is an escape room company in Espoo and Joensuu. We got into escape games in the fall of 2015, when we were building our first escape rooms for another company. After these games, we designed and built our own game – Crime Mystery. With the popularity of the room, we started designing and building new game rooms.

Tips for players

1. Listen carefully to the game's introductory instructions

Every escape room is different. That's why it's especially important to listen to what the game director says before you play. For example, in some games, you can use force, while in others it's forbidden. However, the game director knows what you can and can't do in that room, so listen carefully to the instructions for that room.

2. Explore the room thoroughly

Escape game tasks usually require you to combine different clues in order to progress in the game. Sometimes these clues are visible, sometimes they're hidden in plain sight. When you enter a room, it's important to explore every corner as well as possible. For example, an ordinary-looking object may contain a symbol or number, or sometimes the key to the next lock.

3. Communicate

Escape games work best when there is teamwork. Whenever you find a hidden clue, tell the others about it. You might find a sequence of numbers that fits the lock your friend is currently working on.

4. Don't guess codes

Sometimes you may feel like trying the last number of a combination lock when you have already found four out of five. However, this can mess up the game: for example, the last number may contain an important clue for another task. So, don't try to guess the sequence of numbers, but patiently search for all the necessary numbers.

5. Ask for clues

Usually, getting started is the hardest part for every game. If you feel like you have explored the room and still can't get started, feel free to ask for a clue. Hints are part of escape games and even experienced players need them from time to time.

6. Have fun!

Escape room games are fun to do together. Forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse yourself in the adventure!
